A Big Challenge Conquered

A long-time customer of ours, came to us with a new challenge.

He had recently built six beautiful log cabin lodges on his land in Dalton-in-Furness and needed our help to install hot water cylinder tanks, as well as handle all the plumbing for the bathrooms and kitchens.

Our client knew we could provide reliable, high-quality work that would meet the needs of his new venture.

The Client

Our client is no stranger to us; we've worked together on various projects over the years. This time, he needed a solution to make his newly built log cabins fully functional and comfortable for guests. The hot water systems and plumbing were crucial to ensure that the cabins would be ready to welcome visitors

The Goal

Our goal was to install efficient hot water cylinders and complete hot and cold plumbing systems for each of the six log cabins. This included plumbing the bathrooms, kitchens, and hot tubs. It was important that the systems could handle the demands of multiple guests and ensure reliable hot water for everyone.

How We Did It

Step 1 — Planning and Design

We started by discussing our client's vision and requirements for the cabins. We worked out how much hot water each cabin would need, considering the number of people staying and the number of showers, taps, and hot tubs. We also talked about cylinder options, their warranties, and chose the best system for his needs.

Step 2 — First Fix Installation

Once we had a plan, we started with the first fix. This involved running pipework beneath the floorboards, from the cylinder cupboard to all the outlets in the bathrooms, kitchens, and hot tubs. We made sure the layout was efficient and practical for the cabins.

Step 3 — Second Fix and Finishing

Next, we installed the hot water cylinders, new pipework, safety devices, and controls in each cabin. We then filled the cylinders, tested everything, and made sure it was all working perfectly. Once we were happy, we commissioned the systems and handed them over to our client with a full explanation of how to operate them.

The Work

Preparation
To get started, we planned out the best cylinder system for the cabins, calculating the required power and water capacity.

We consulted with our suppliers and used industry standards to determine the most efficient configuration.

We also worked out the most effective placement for the plumbing systems, ensuring minimal heat loss and efficient water flow, and chose suitable materials and controls that would be able to withstand the demands of a rental property environment, including durability and ease of maintenance.
Installation
  • Hot Water System Installation: We installed hot water cylinders in each cabin, with pipework running to bathrooms, kitchens, and hot tubs. The cylinders were selected based on their ability to provide adequate hot water for multiple uses simultaneously, ensuring no interruptions for guests.
  • Plumbing and Safety Devices: We installed the first fix plumbing beneath the floorboards, followed by the installation of cylinders, safety devices, controls, and valves. We made sure to install pressure relief valves, thermostatic mixing valves, and anti-scald devices to enhance safety. Everything was carefully positioned to ensure reliability, ease of use, and compliance with building regulations.
Finishing Touches
Once the systems were installed, we did thorough testing to ensure everything was working perfectly—checking water flow, temperature, and pressure consistency across all cabins.

We balanced the hot water distribution to ensure no single cabin would experience a drop in pressure during peak usage.

We also provided our client with a demonstration of how to operate the system, including safety features like shut-off valves and troubleshooting minor issues, making sure he was comfortable with all the new features.

The Results

Our client was thrilled with the results.

The hot and cold water systems we installed have proven to be highly efficient and reliable, ensuring that guests renting the cabins have a comfortable experience year-round. The cabins are now fully functional and ready to welcome visitors, providing hot water on demand without any issues.

His guests have been very happy, and the cabins are booked out all year round, thanks in part to the dependable systems we installed.

Our client has also reported fewer maintenance issues and lower energy bills due to the efficiency of the systems we put in place.
