Turning a Cold Extension into a Cozy and Warm Home

Our client came to us through a word-of-mouth recommendation from a friend. They needed to extend their home in Barrow-in-Furness and required a reliable and efficient plumbing and heating solution to ensure the new space was both comfortable and usable.

The Client

Our client is a mortgage advisor and lettings agent who understands the importance of a well-planned and executed heating and plumbing system. They trusted us to deliver high-quality work tailored to their specific needs for their home extension.

The Goal

The goal was to install a new underfloor heating system, relocate the boiler, and handle the first and second fix plumbing for the bathroom and kitchen. This included ensuring adequate water pressure and installing all necessary fixtures and appliances.

How We Did It

Step 1 — Initial Consultation and Planning

We started by meeting with our client to understand their ideas and needs for the extension. We planned where the pipes would go for the new boiler and the underfloor heating. Our design focused on making sure the heating was strong and efficient. We also planned the layout for the kitchen appliances and bathroom fixtures to make everything work well and look good.

Step 2 — First Fix Installation

We began by removing the old boiler and installing new pipes to the new boiler location. We placed insulation boards on the concrete floor to support the underfloor heating. Next, we installed the underfloor heating loops as planned and tested them for leaks. We also set up the plumbing for hot, cold, and drainage systems in the kitchen and bathroom areas, getting everything ready for the next steps.

Step 3 — Blog Conversion Rate Optimisation and Content Assets

After screeding the floors and installing the new kitchen, we moved to the second fix phase. This involved connecting the kitchen and utility sinks and installing all kitchen appliances. In the bathroom, we fitted all the fixtures, including the basin, toilet, and heated towel rail. We also installed heating controls to make the underfloor heating easy to use. Our team ensured all plumbing connections were secure and leak-free, focusing on both functionality and appearance to create a comfortable living space.

The Work

With the plan ready, our team began the transformation of the new build extension into a fully usable space.
Preparation
We started by removing the old boiler and clearing the area for the new installations.

We carefully planned the pipework layout to make sure the new systems were efficient and effective, setting the stage for a smooth installation process.
Installation
  • Underfloor Heating System: We installed the underfloor heating pipes, ensuring the heat was spread evenly throughout the new extension. The manifold and control valves were placed in easy-to-reach spots for better efficiency.
  • Boiler Relocation: We moved the boiler to its new spot, making sure it was easily accessible and connected properly to the heating system. This helped reduce energy loss and improve overall heating performance.
  • Plumbing and Drainage: We set up the plumbing for the kitchen, utility room, and bathroom, making sure all hot, cold, and drainage pipes were correctly placed and secured. This was essential for supporting the new kitchen and bathroom fixtures and appliances.
Finishing Touches
After the main installations, we added all the fixtures and finishes.

We installed radiators and made the heating controls easy to use. In the bathroom and kitchen, we added high-quality fixtures to ensure everything looked good and worked well.

We conducted thorough tests to make sure there were no leaks and that all systems were running smoothly. Safety certificates were issued for all gas appliances, giving our client peace of mind.

The Results

We finished the project on time, and our client was very happy with the outcome. The new build extension made their home more comfortable and energy-efficient. The underfloor heating system provides steady warmth, getting rid of the cold spots they had before. The moved boiler works efficiently, ensuring reliable heating and hot water throughout the home. The plumbing in the kitchen and bathroom is fully functional and meets the client’s needs, making their home more usable and valuable.

Our client loved the attention to detail, from the smart heating layout to the placement of the kitchen and bathroom fixtures. The boosted water pressure system was especially appreciated, solving the problem of low water pressure.
